Great horror film: [Rec]

This weekend I watched [Rec]. It’s a Spanish horror movie following the Blair Witch Project/Cloverfield modus operandi of being filmed with a handheld camera. It’s about a young female reporter called Angela who goes around with her cameraman every night in search of different collectives of people. Tonight they’ll be covering the local firemen. The night starts calm, but then they receive a call from an old lady who is trapped inside her house. When the firemen and the television crew arrive at the building, they see that the neighbours are very frightened by horrible screams coming from the old lady’s apartment. The firemen break down the door of the apartment and what follows in an absolute thrill ride.

I’m not scared easily by horror movies, but after this one, it took me a while to become relaxed again. Definitely one of the scariest movies I’ve ever seen and also one of the best movies of 2008. A must-see for horror movie lovers and in my opinion destined to become a classic.

As usually happens with successfull foreign horror movies, Hollywood is going to remake this one. The remake, titled Quarantine, should be released in the US around november of this year.

Below are 2 YouTube clips. One shows the public’s reaction to a screening of [Rec] and another one is the trailer of the movie.

Re: So many good movies lately

This post is a follow-up to an older post about some upcoming movies. So far, I’ve seen 4 of the 6 movies and I must say that they’re the best movies I’ve seen lately.

  1. I Am Legend: Great movie, one of Will Smith’s best in my opinion. I really enjoyed it. I have a weak spot for post-apocalyptic movies, so it was to be expected. I gave it a 8/10 on IMDb.
  2. Cloverfield: Amazing movie also. It’s like a mix between the Blair Witch Project and Godzilla. I saw it in the theaters with my girlfriend and we both loved it. The Blair Witch formula always succeeds in sucking me in. I gave it a 9/10 on IMDb.
  3. No Country for Old Men: I’m glad this one won the biggest Oscars (and not There Will Be Blood, which is also good, but not as good as this one). The Coen brothers made a great movie. The special ending seemed to bother most people, but not me. I gave it a 9/10 on IMDb.
  4. The Mist: This movie was even better than I expected it to be. Frank Darabont really lived up to my high expectations. There’s something special about this movie (I won’t tell what) that makes this a movie you’ll probably never forget. I gave it a 8/10 on IMDb.

Into The Wild and Rambo are still on my must-see list.

This picture makes me feel small

Yesterday, I found this amazing animated gif. It begins by showing our planet and keeps adding other objects, while scaling the other visible objects to reflect its relative size.

Our solar system

Doesn’t that make you feel small? Or am I the only one?
